Clogged drains are not an uncommon thing in households, and in general are no reason to panic. This usually happens in a kitchen sink, bathroom sink, shower or tub drain, or laundry/utility room sink. In washrooms, for example, a buildup of hair and other runoff waste is the typical culprit of drain clogs. Bathroom sinks usually have a drain stopper that you can pull up – if you haven’t cleaned this in a while, chances are good that it will be full of hair and gunk. Time to give it a good cleaning and wiping. Put the stopper back in place and run the water. If you don’t see improvement in water buildup, you probably have a clog further down the line. Stores sell ‘drain snakes’ and the cost is minimal. If the clog isn’t too far down, the snake will do the trick, pulling out hair and other debris. If that doesn’t work, the clog is likely deeper – that’s when it’s time to call a professional plumber. *note: avoid using chemical ‘cleaners’ as they are abrasive and usually toxic*
An ounce of prevention, as they say, is worth a pound of cure. Save yourself the trouble later by preventing debris from going down the drain. In kitchen sinks, you can use mesh covers over the drain. In bathrooms, avoid getting excessive hair or other things down the sink. Use the trash bin, recycling or compost bins.
Small leaks can be fixed in a DIY manner, if you’re handy and have the tools. It takes time, of course, and you need to know what to look for. Determine what is causing the leak. Quickly disassemble the faucet. Supply any needed replacement parts. Reassemble the faucet so that it’s better than new. If you have the gear and know-how to do that, great. if not, your best bet is to call a plumber. We’d be glad to help!
First, go to the water shut off valve at or around the toilet base. Turn valve until water shuts off. If the toilet does not have a valve, open the tank and rig the float to stay in its position – this way no more water will flow in.
Next, use towels or a Shop-Vac to clean up the water that’s spilled onto the floor. Thoroughly wash all surfaces that were affected.
Step 3: Either reach into the toilet (wearing rubber gloves) use a toilet plunger to try to remove the object(s) blocking the toilet.
If this doesn’t work, give us a call. Toilet overflowing could be a sign of a larger plumbing issue. The clog may be located farther down the pipes. We can diagnose the issue and resolve it promptly and professionally.

I am so pleased with the “Vision Mechanical” experience. When I first phoned and asked for a rough price to re-seat my toilet they were able to give me a ball park price and the cost of the job came in $15 cheaper than quoted – unlike other places that were going to charge me $89 to come out to give me a quote on the work. I am also pleased with the quality of the work done. Thank you so much – keep up the great work.
This Company helped me out in a pinch while trying to close a deal on my house. They were the first out of 8 service request calls that willingly offered to come out on overtime to meet my timeline…when everybody is booking 2-3 weeks out, call Vision! Thanks guys! The bill was very reasonable as well, even with the overtime.
Highly recommend Vision Mechanical Plumbing. The office staff went beyond to help me and were very efficient and considerate. They came right away and solved my hot water tank problem. Brent was super professional and friendly and explained what went wrong with the tank, easy fix when you know what you are doing. Thank you to all the friendly and helpful people at Vision Mechanical. I will be going straight to Vision Mechanical next time I have any sort of plumbing or heating problem. Highly recommend!!!
I’ll start off by saying I have very little experience with professionals working on my home but I’ve used Vision a couple times. Always friendly and informative gave me a few suggestions for preventative maintenance I could do myself. I like that they show up when they say they will as well.
Jeff from vision mechanical did an awesome job servicing our furnace and fireplace!! He was thorough and explained all of his findings with us! Vision Mechanical provided great service, a courtesy call to remind me of my appointment and was great value for a seasonal tune up! I would highly recommend Vision Mechanical for all your plumbing, heating and cooling services!
