Salt-Free Conditioning vs. Water Softening
Both tackle hard water, but they work very differently. The right choice comes down to how you want your water to feel and how much upkeep you’re comfortable with.
Salt-free conditioning changes how calcium and magnesium behave, so they’re far less likely to stick to pipes, fixtures and appliances as scale. Because the minerals stay in your water, it won’t have a slippery feel, but there’s no salt to buy and little or no water sent down the drain. In the HALO 5 and H2 Zero systems, conditioning is paired with carbon filtration, so you get chlorine reduction too. Ion exchange softening removes calcium and magnesium entirely, replacing them with sodium for that classic slippery, soft-water feel. The HALO CK10 Softener works this way.
